Thanks Chris and Aahaan for the great summary of our week!
We had a wonderful last day of school before winter break with many fun activities and
an amazing third grade show today!
Great America reading logs are due Monday, 1/15.
The class has earned another reward and they will receive it after break.
Remember there is no school until Monday, 1/8 when we return from break.
Have a wonderful and safe winter break -
we hope you are able to enjoy time together with family and friends.
Don't lose those math homework packets - we'll need them again after break!
See you again next year ;-)!

Thanks Tanvi and Sudheeshna for the great summary of our week! (Sorry we had to trim it a bit to allow it to upload.)

The next reading calendar is due next Fri., 12/22.  400min. is ok as a total.

If you still want to do lunchtime readers, they will accept permission slips up until next Tues. 12/19.

Due to music practice next week, we will take a break from math lessons and continue Chapter 6 after break.  There will be no math homework next week.  Please do not lose the packets over winter break - we will need them again!

The music show is next Friday, 12/22 at 9:45, if you plan on attending. This show is for the 3rd grade parents.

12/8 Update

Thanks Hemanth and Sanvi for summarizing our week! Great job!

Here are a few updates:
The reading calendar is due 12/22 - 400 minutes is acceptable for this month's goal.

PLEASE send in post-it notes if you can spare them.  We are already completely out! The kids use them to set their personal goals each week and to record their thinking during writing, amongst other things.  We'll take whatever you can spare :).  Thank you!

We've started Chapter 6 in math.  Homework will begin on Monday.  This is a longer chapter than the others, so we will need to finish and test for it after winter break.

Have a great weekend!

10/27 Update

Nick and Katya did a great job summarizing our week!

We will be starting Chapter 4 in math next week. Sidenote: I copied the homework packets and put the Chapter 5 cover letter on top! Oops! I'll send a separate cover letter but we'll use those homework packets so we don't waste paper.

Halloween is next Tuesday. The parade starts at 1:45. Please make sure your costume is appropriate for school and for the weather - it's getting chilly so you may need pants or a sweatshirt under your costume.

Picture retake day will be held on Monday, November 6th at 9:30 a.m.  You must return the original photo package in order to have a retake.  If your child was absent or is new to the school and you need an order form, please contact the school office.

Fall conferences are just around the corner.  We will be doing an online sign-up similar to our Spring Conferences last year.  You can start signing up at 10:00am on November 6th.  We will send a Sign-Up Genius link on November 5th via School Messenger.  Remember conferences are November 20th and 21st.

I told any students who did not yet hand in the 1st bullying homework I will give them until Monday to hand it in, at which point second chance sheets will come home if it's not done.

9/8 Weekly Update

Picture Day is Tuesday, September 26th! Please return your envelope before that date if you plan to order pictures.

Bully Prevention Talks start next Friday. Please be sure to read the information below from Ms. Ague, our School Social Worker. Her blog is also a wonderful place for resources, if you are interested:  ivyhillsocialwork.weebly.com
This year we are teaching the Second Step Bullying Prevention Unit in grades 1st-5th. Over the next 4 weeks, Ms. Ague, our School Social Worker, will be working with each grade level to do a series of lessons on bullying. In the lessons, your child will learn specific skills to help recognize and handle bullying.  Students will learn how to:
· Recognize when bullying is happening
· Report bullying to a caring adult
· Refuse to let bullying happen to themselves or others
· Be a bystander who stands up and is part of the solution
· 4th and 5th grade students will be learning about cyber bullying.
In addition, your student will be bringing home simple, fun activities called Home Links that will help you understand what your child is learning about bullying at school.  The Home Links will also give your child another opportunity to practice skills for handling bullying.
If you have any questions about the Bullying Prevention Unit please feel free to contact Ms. Ague or myself.  Thank you for your support in helping make our school a safe and respectful place where everyone can learn.
